Registration Steps
MWS Courses are 1st-come, 1st-served until filled or until 5 days before course launch. We recommend signing up early as each course has only 12 spaces. Once a course is filled we will open a waitlist for that course.
Follow the steps below to start your MWS adventure!
STEP 1 - Explore our Courses
Browse our course offerings to find the program that best fits your student’s age, experience level, and interests—whether that’s backpacking, rock climbing, paddling, or a multi-sport expedition.

STEP 2 - Apply Online
Create an account, complete our general application, and submit a non-refundable $25 application fee.
Our general application includes a link to our Financial Aid Application if you’re interested in applying.
Please note- When creating an account, you will get an email to create a password for a “FACTS account with Headwaters Academy.” This is correct. MWS is under Headwaters Academy Administrative umbrella. Even though it says this, you ARE applying to MWS.
STEP 3 - Schedule a call
A MWS Admissions team member will reach out once we receive your application to schedule a 15 minute Zoom call with you to ensure that Montana Wilderness School and your course is a good fit.
These calls are mandatory for new and returning students, and must be completed before your student can be accepted and enrolled.
STEP 4 - Application Review
Once you have completed your phone call and our Admissions Team has reviewed your application and determined that MWS is the right fit for you, we will reach out to welcome you and get you enrolled.
You’re halfway there!
STEP 5 - Enrollment
Once accepted it is time to enroll:
1. Fill out and submit a Medical form and a signed copy of our policies + waivers in your MWS portal.
2. Pay tuition in full or set up your payment plan
Once enrolled, your space is officially reserved!
STEP 6 - Prepare for your course!
Enrolled families receive a comprehensive Welcome Packet to review and get familiar with before course launch, including:

Course Itinerary and logistics
