The Montana Mountaineering Expedition is an adventurous 21-day course where students will develop communication and decision making skills while traveling though remote sections of Montana’s high country. In addition to acquiring backpacking and camping skills, students will learn to navigate through rocky and snowy terrain and will apply their knowledge as an expeditionary team on technical peak ascents. This expedition also focuses on a connection to place and fosters a conservation ethic as students understand the importance of wild places and the different components of an alpine ecosystem. This is a challenging expedition as students will carry heavy packs and travel long distances almost every day, often away from established trails on rugged terrain. Students should expect a physically demanding expedition through beautiful and remote mountain ranges. For more information about MWS core curriculum and expedition progression see Expedition Life.
